There are a lot of unfortunate things in our world, bad people do bad things. Being aware and cautious can help prevent many of the unfortunate incidences in our day to day life, but what happens when someone scams you? Scammers are the worse of the bad guys; they mislead and take advantage of innocent people at a time when they are very vulnerable.

My friend lost his keys the other day and since I’m a locksmith, he shared his dramatic 90 minutes with me. Here’s what happened: My friend (also my marketing manager) was unloading his weekly groceries one warm Friday afternoon and multi-tasking by entertaining his Lab and the puppy. With the supplies nearly placed away, his phone rang from another customer in need. As fate would have it, this client was only minutes away from my friend so he said: “No Problem, see you in a few.” As he headed out the door, he realized his house keys and truck keys were missing, less than an hour had passed so this should be an easy find.
After retracing his steps dozens of times, racking his brain into a migraine and even employing his wife to search, he realized his error. His keys were in the dog treat box! The lab and puppy wanted a treat when they saw him unloading groceries, so he used his keys as a knife to open the dog treats AND with his hands full, dropped the keys in the treat box.
My friend was lucky and found his keys, but what would you do if you lost your keys? Here are some simple steps that should help.
Relax: getting stressed out will only make matters worse, relax and take a deep breath.
RetraceyourSteps: follow along in your mind where you last had your keys and retrace your steps to that point.
AskyourNeighbors: it’s hard to beat a good neighbor; they can help look or be on the lookout if your keys turn up.
NewLocks: if you are unsuccessful in retrieving your keys, it’s time to change the locks. If someone found your keys and was able to link them back to your home, a break-in is very likely to happen.
Special thanks to our good friend for allowing us to use his true story and if you find yourself locked out without your house keys call Anchor, we are always glad to help!
